Frequently asked questions
The platform
How does Rent Las Terrenas work?
Rent Las Terrenas lets you compare self-drive rental offers from several local companies in Las Terrenas: quads (ATVs), cars, motorbikes, scooters and buggies. Each offer shows an indicative price with the date it was collected. When an offer suits you, click Request to book and fill in the form; only your WhatsApp number is required. Our team then contacts you on WhatsApp to confirm price and availability. You don't need an account, and there is no payment on the site. More details in How it works.
Is my request a confirmed booking?
No. Sending the form does not reserve a vehicle: it is a request. Our team checks the price and availability and gets back to you on WhatsApp. Until that has been confirmed and you have agreed to the rental conditions, nothing is booked and availability is not guaranteed. If your plans change in the meantime, just let us know on WhatsApp.
Who will contact me after I send a request?
The Rent Las Terrenas team, on WhatsApp. Your request is received by our team, not by the rental company shown on the offer, and nothing is forwarded automatically to rental companies. We contact you to confirm price and availability and to answer your questions about the vehicle, delivery, deposit or documents. Keep an eye on WhatsApp after sending your request so you don't miss our message.
Why is only my WhatsApp number required?
Because it is all we need to reply: our team confirms price and availability on WhatsApp. Every other field is optional. Adding details such as your dates or the vehicle you want helps us give you a more precise answer, but you can also share them later in the conversation. Enter your number with the country code so that our message reaches you.
Are the listed rental companies your partners?
Not necessarily. Rent Las Terrenas shows offers from several local rental companies, and not all of them are partners. The site does not belong to any of these companies, and being listed does not mean that a company endorses us or that we guarantee its service. In every case, our team confirms price and availability with you on WhatsApp, and the rental conditions are those of the rental company.
What does the “Sponsored” label mean?
An offer marked Sponsored is one whose placement on the site has been paid for by the rental company, so it may appear more prominently. The label is there for transparency: it is not a recommendation, a quality rating or a guarantee of availability. As with every price on the site, the price shown is indicative and must be confirmed. Compare its conditions as you would for any other offer.
Prices
Are the prices up to date?
Prices are collected from public sources, and each one is shown with its collection date so you can see how recent it is. They are indicative, not a quote: the rental company may have changed its rates since. When a price has not been successfully checked for 7 days, it is labeled To reconfirm. In every case, our team confirms the current price and availability on WhatsApp before you commit to anything.
Does the price shown include taxes, insurance and delivery?
Not necessarily. Each company presents its prices in its own way: some include ITBIS (the Dominican VAT, with a general rate of 18%), basic insurance or delivery, while others charge them separately. A deposit may also be required; it is not part of the price. Before you agree, ask for the total for your dates with all mandatory fees, and check what the insurance covers and the amount of the deductible.
Do you take payment on the site?
No. There is no payment on Rent Las Terrenas, and the request form does not ask for card details. Sending a request is free and does not commit you to anything. Payment and any deposit are handled according to the rental company's conditions: ask how and when to pay (cash, card, currency) before you confirm.
What is the difference between the deposit and the rental price?
The rental price is what you pay to use the vehicle. The deposit is a guarantee: an amount held on your card or paid in cash at the start, and returned at the end if the vehicle comes back in the agreed condition. Depending on the contract, damage, missing fuel, a late return or fines can be deducted from it. Amounts and terms vary by company and vehicle, so ask how much it is, in what form and when it is returned.
Rental
What documents do I need to rent a vehicle?
It depends on the rental company, so check with it. You will generally be asked for:
- a valid driver's license covering the vehicle category;
- your passport or an official ID;
- a way to pay the deposit (credit card or cash).
Some companies may also ask for an International Driving Permit. Visitors can generally drive with their foreign license for a limited period; the limit most often cited is 90 days.
What is the minimum age to rent?
It varies by rental company and by vehicle. Some set a minimum age or a minimum number of years since the driver got their license, and conditions for young drivers (higher deposit, extra fee) may differ from one company to another. There is no single rule for all offers: tell our team the age of each driver when we contact you on WhatsApp so that the conditions of the offer can be checked.
Can the vehicle be delivered to my accommodation?
It depends on the offer. Some rental companies deliver and collect vehicles at your accommodation in Las Terrenas, possibly for a fee or above a minimum rental period; others ask you to pick up the vehicle at their premises. Give the address or area of your accommodation when our team contacts you on WhatsApp, and confirm the place, time and any delivery fee before you agree.
How do I cancel?
If you have only sent a request, there is nothing to cancel with us: a request is not a booking. Just tell our team on WhatsApp that you no longer need the vehicle. Once a rental has been confirmed with a rental company, its own cancellation conditions apply (refund of any advance payment, fees, deadlines). Ask about them before you confirm.
Vehicles
Which vehicle should I choose for two people or a family?
For two people, a two-seat quad, a buggy, a motorbike or scooter with a passenger seat, or a small car can all work. Check that the model is designed to carry a passenger, and remember that the law requires a helmet for both rider and passenger on a motorbike. For a family with children, a car is usually more practical: seat belts, room for luggage and the option of a child seat, to be requested in advance. Also consider the roads you plan to take, the sun and the rain.
What should I know about rain and the rainy season?
Showers can happen at any time of year, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. After heavy rain, dirt tracks become muddy and slippery, potholes fill with water and rivers can rise quickly. On a quad, buggy or two-wheeler you will get wet and muddy; a car is more comfortable in bad weather. Follow official weather alerts, don't cross flooded areas and ask the rental company whether some routes are off-limits.
Personal data
How can I access or delete my data?
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data at any time on our data rights page. If you ticked the optional box to receive commercial offers (it is unticked by default), you can also ask us there to stop sending them. Without that consent, your WhatsApp number is used to handle your request, not to send you advertising.
Businesses
I run a rental company. How can I work with you?
Visit our business page. From there you can contact our team if you want your offers to appear on the platform, discuss a partnership or a sponsored placement, or update information about your company that is already listed. Note that the catalog may also include offers from companies that are not partners, based on publicly available information.
