Las Terrenas centre, beaches and areas: where they are and which vehicle suits getting around.

Town center (Pueblo)

The center of Las Terrenas is organized around Calle Duarte, the main street that runs up from the beach, and Calle del Carmen, with shops, banks and many vehicle rental agencies. It is compact and easy to explore on foot; scooters, cars and motoconchos (motorcycle taxis) are used to reach the beaches further west and east.

Pueblo de los Pescadores (Fishermen's Village)

The former fishermen's village on the seafront is now a row of restaurants and bars set on the sand, and a lively meeting point in the evening. After a fire in 2021, the area was renovated and reopened in 2025. It is reached on foot from the center; visitors staying further away usually come by scooter, car or taxi.

Playa Las Terrenas

The town beach starts at Pueblo de los Pescadores and runs along the seafront in front of the center. It is within walking distance of the center; visitors staying in other areas usually arrive by scooter, car or taxi.

Las Ballenas

A beachfront sector just west of Pueblo de los Pescadores, with apartments, homes and tourist services; its beach takes its name from the small islets visible offshore. It is close to the center, and many people walk or ride a scooter there.

Playa Bonita

A beach west of Las Ballenas, lined with small hotels and holiday homes. People usually get there by scooter, quad, car or taxi.

Cosón

Beyond Playa Bonita, Cosón has a long beach backed by palm trees, residential developments and hotels. Because of the distance from the center, people usually get around by car, quad or scooter.

Punta Popy

Just east of the center, Punta Popy has a beach known for kitesurfing, with homes and apartments near the shore. It is close enough to the center to walk or ride a scooter.

El Portillo

A coastal area further east, on the road toward El Limón, with a wide beach, large hotel complexes and a small airfield. It is too far to walk comfortably from the center; people come by car, scooter, quad or taxi.

El Limón

A community outside Las Terrenas on the road to Santa Bárbara de Samaná, and the starting point for visits to the El Limón waterfall (Salto El Limón), which is reached on foot or on horseback along a trail. To get to El Limón, a car, quad, buggy or motorbike is the practical choice.
